Around the World: CONGRATULATIONS PATRICIA CHICA!

A long time resident of Montreal and a person I have crossed often through the years, PATRICA CHICA,  has received recognition for her craft this week. I share the press release with you:

"OAXACA FILMFEST recognizes creative duo
Patricia Chica and Kamal John Iskander
at their 6th annual awards ceremony in Mexico.

Other winners include:
Martin Scorsese, Guillermo del Toro,
Patricia Arquette and Takashi Miike among others.


(Oaxaca, Mexico) – October 20th, 2015 – The 6th Annual Oaxaca FilmFest, their biggest edition yet, was well attended by filmmakers, screenwriters, and industry reps from Sundance Institute, IndieGogo, Kickstarter, and UTA amongst other notable guests.

This year’s edition saw more than 2,900 works from 98 countries entered in the pre-selection phase, and 297 of them competed in different categories.

A Tricky Treat, an irreverent short comedy directed by acclaimed Canadian filmmaker Patricia Chica, was written by last year’s Best International Screenplay award-winner Kamal John Iskander. The short received a Jury Special Mention in the International Short Film category.

“I have traveled to many festivals in my career, and this one is by far my favorite one on the circuit,” said Patricia Chica in her acceptance speech.

Other winners include: Yakuza Apocalypse (Takashi Miike, Best Director); The Wannabe (Best Picture executive produced by Martin Scorsese, Patricia Arquette - Best Actress and Vincent Piazza - Best Actor); The Thin Yellow Line (Best Mexican Picture, produced by Guillermo del Toro).
 
A Tricky Treat continues its festival tour with upcoming screenings at Screamfest (Hollywood), Morbido (Mexico), Lund International Fantastic Fest (Sweden) and many others around the world.
The film was penned by award-winning writer Kamal John Iskander, executive produced by Tara Kurtz, produced by Patricia Chica, Grace Santos, Byron A. Martin, and co-executive produced by Adonai Interiano and Morris Umali.
Starring Leonard Waldner (the victim), Steve Brewster (father), Andrea Fletcher (mother), Keira McCarthy (daughter), and newcomer Marco Reilly (son). Key crew members include Imad Rhayem (DP), Gabrielle Giraud (Production Designer), Danny McCarthy (Special FX supervisor), Henry Lipatov and Anton Golovchenko (Visual FX supervisors), Valentina Badaracco (makeup), and RedLab Digital (post-production studio)."
