Last Wednesday, the 18th of September, I attended the press conference to meet this year's honoree for the Humanitarian Award, M. DANNY GLOVER. Along with him, we met NORRY NIVEN, director of the movie Chasing Shakespeare in which M. Glover also stars, plus TANTOO CARDINAL who plays the part of his wife in the movie and MIKE WARD a noticeable young actor reminiscent of a young DENZEL WASHINGTON with his huge talent and winning smile.
Mercredi dernier, le 18 septembre, je me suis rendue à la
conférence de presse pour rencontrer le lauréat pour le Prix Humanitaire de
cette année, M.DANNY GLOVER. Avec lui étaient NORRY NIVEN, le réalisateur du film Chasing Shakespeare
dans lequel M. Glover est la vedette, TANTOO CARDINAL qui joue le rôle de sa
femme et MIKE WARD un remarquable jeune comédien qui rappelle un jeune DENZEL
WASHINGTON avec son immense talent et sourire radieux.

The most fascinating element of this movie for me is that it is a tale that combines Native Americans with African Americans. Both of these cultures were savaged in the last centuries of the last millennium
and we were never told about how they sometimes came together in efforts to survive.
Pour moi l’élément le plus fascinant de ce film
est que c’est un récit qui unit deux peuples qui furent sauvagement ravagés
dans les derniers siècles du dernier millénaire : les Autochtones
Américains et les Américains d’origines Africaines. On ne se fait jamais
raconter comment ces gens ont combattu ensemble contre des ennemis communs.
The evening was warm and welcoming as throngs of people gathered for the official opening. M. Glover received his award with humbleness and reminded us again of the important part that each of us must play if we want to live in a world rich with dignity and respect for all. He had said earlier:
« In world cinema, today's people want to see their own images reflected on films.»
I would answer that the one thing I am constantly learning from this ongoing festival is that when I engage in a story, color and gender fade away as I realize I am listening to a HUMAN story.
La soirée était chaleureuse et accueillante
alors que la foule souriante se réunissait pour la soirée d’ouverture
officielle. M. Glover a accepté son prix avec humilité et nous a rappelé encore
une fois de l’important rôle que chacun de nous doit jouer si nous voulons
vivre dans un monde riche en dignité et respect pour tous. Il avait dit plus
tôt:
« Dans le cinéma mondial, les gens
d’aujourd’hui veulent voir leur propre image reflétée sur le grand écran.»
Je répondrais que la chose que j’apprends
continuellement avec ce festival en cours est que quand je m’engage dans une
histoire, la couleur et le sexe s’estompe alors que je réalise que j’écoute une
histoire HUMAINE.
The festival has just started! This coming Saturday starting at 3pm you will have a rare opportunity to spend an afternoon with MOUSSA TOURÉ! M.Touré is a film producer and director from Senegal. Tuesday September 24th, there will be a celebration of the 50 years since the historical "I have a dream" speech of MARTIN LITHER KING. This evening will be hosted by Rev. DARRYL GRAY.
Mardi le 24 septembre, il y aura une célébration pour souligner les 50 ans depuis le discours historique "I have a dream" de MARTIN LUTHER KING. La soirée sera animé par Rev. DARRYL GRAY.
