THE HELP // LA COULEUR DES SENTIMENTS

En Français plus bas

A movie based on the best selling and beloved novel of the same title written by KATHRYN STOCKETT and adapted for film by writer-director TATE TAYLOR.

It is a movie set in Mississippi during the early 1960's. Through a young woman who dreams of becoming a writer, Skeeter Phelan, played by EMMA STONE, we hear the voices of a group of "negro" maids who, reluctantly at first, eventually do reveal their brutal and demeaning realities in this extremely racist and violent American State at the risk of their very lives.

I approached the film with great excitement at seeing VIOLA DAVIS's performance as Aibileen Clark. Her performance is profoundly moving as the character's deeply hidden pain transpires through the posture of reserved docility expected of "negros" in the south during that era. It is quite a feat.

Shining a light beside her, my ULTRA number one performance of the movie, OCTAVIA SPENCER playing Aibileen's close friend Minnie Jackson. I fell in love with this supreme actress who hardly needs to speak as her gorgeous brown eyes reveal her innermost thoughts. Just a brilliant performance. Many movie critics are already convinced OCTAVIA SPENCER will be nominated for an Oscar for this role.

Surrounding these brilliant performances some of Hollywood's best actresses: SISSY SPACEK as an aging mother suffering from Alzheimer's, CICELY TYSON as Constantine, MARY STEENBURGEN as a sassy New York publisher, and I loved ALLISON JANNEY's performance as Skeeter Phelan's mom.

You will just love the movie! By the end people were giving it a standing ovation.
